From coffee beans to wheat and coal – CAD separator manufacture

The scientific and production enterprise “Aeromeh” moved from Kremennaya to the Luhansk region to the village of Yerki, Cherkasy region. Founded in 2001 in Luhansk, the company became a resettled company for the second time. Since June, already at a new location, we have begun to produce our main products – the CAD separator (aerodynamic separator) for grain cleaning.

These machines are designed for the preparation of seed material – they allow you to sort the seeds. This is the author’s development of Lugansk manufacturers, for which we have patents. They buy separators all over the world – there are customers in Europe and Africa, the USA and Canada. Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 60% of all products were sold for export, 40% – on the Ukrainian market.

In March, when intensive shelling of Kremennaya by Russian troops began, the company’s management decided to leave. The only thing that could be taken out was part of the finished product from the warehouses. All the machines necessary for production remained in Kremennaya: a laser machine, machines for bending metal parts, auxiliary tools, lathes, welding machines, electric tools.

“For our company, this is the second evacuation, we have the experience of moving in 2014, when the war began in eastern Ukraine. We then left Lugansk, gradually took out our property, had the opportunity to leave several times. This time, everything is different, ”says Alexander Chernobay, director and co-founder of Aeromeh.

It was not possible to get government assistance for business relocation. According to the director, each entrepreneur had to look for transport on their own and then apply for a refund through an online platform. In April, the price of transportation from the Lugansk region increased almost tenfold. Yes, and pick up the machines under fire was risky.

“Before the war, renting a truck from Kremennaya to Dnipro cost 10,000 hryvnias, in April the price reached 80,000 hryvnias, drivers refused to go to the dangerous region,” says Chernobay. It is impossible to take out heavy equipment quickly, for example, we have a machine that we installed for three days, it was unrealistic to quickly dismantle it under shelling in order to take it out. Therefore, we ourselves exported only what we could, primarily our finished products. This was important because we were able to quickly ship it to customers and get money for running costs.”

It was difficult for employees of the Aeromeh company, which moved from the city to the small village of Yerki, to find housing, many refused to go to an unknown region. Most of the private houses in the village turned out to be occupied, empty – unsuitable for living. At the new location, the company rented a production facility – the territory of a former agricultural enterprise – and started working.

“There are fourteen people with us now, each of them is very important in the production chain, it is thanks to these people that we started production at a new location. Part of the work is done in cooperation with colleagues from Cherkasy, part of it ourselves, we also buy some ready-made parts. We have already purchased a small manual machine for metal processing and this week we are finishing painting several cages made in York. Despite the war, we have plans for development, we are gradually moving forward,” the director shares.

Today the company has orders from Austria, Romania, Bulgaria. Having fulfilled them, “Aeromeh” will have working capital to continue work and retain its employees. Orders are also received from Ukrainian agribusiness.

“I think that this year seeds from Europe and the USA will be imported less, so farmers will have to use more of their own. But to increase the yield, it needs to be cooked, sorted with high quality in the first place. Our machines help to do this, after which the yield increases by 35 – 40%. Empty, diseased grains are separated by a separator, and sexual, small debris is also screened out. Only grains with the highest specific gravity remain, which will potentially bring a high yield,” says Irina Chernobay, commercial director of the company.

Before the war, separators were bought in 60 countries of the world. Although manufacturers are mainly focused on agribusiness, but buyers adapt them to their needs.

“Our separator allows you to sort any seeds into 5 fractions by specific gravity. The machine can sort different seeds – wheat, sunflower, corn, rapeseed, peas. The grain is loaded into the receiving hopper, from which it then enters the chamber separation, where it is processed by the air flow. Air flows literally sift through each grain, distributing it to the desired fraction – the highest quality grain, feed grain and waste, ”says Irina.

If Ukrainian farmers sort wheat and other grains, buyers from African countries, for example, sift coffee beans, customers from Romania, in addition to ordinary grain, sort frozen berries.

“At the exhibition, coffee powder was once sifted to separate the sand that got to it. We also know that they sort coal, material for making briquettes, sunflower waste – at poultry farms it is very important that oil films do not get into bird feed, so they are still separated, ”recalls Irina, how clients use their separators.

The ambitious task of Aeromeh for this year is to maintain the trust of customers, purchase new machines for full-fledged work in production, and after the Victory, return to its workshop in the Kremennaya Luhansk region.
